IS THIS BILLED TO THE STATE?

Answer the questions and find out if you bill the transcript to the State.  There's always exceptions to the rules when you have a strange request, so contact us if you do not get the answer you think is correct.

Has the defendant been declared indigent?

Explanation:  Pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 608, the State will provide certain transcripts when the defendant has been declared indigent.

Is the transcript for an appeal filed by the defendant?

Explanation:  An indigent appeal is the most common reason the State will pay for a transcript, but there are a few more questions you will need to answer about this specific transcript before you can know it's okay to bill through CTF. If the State's Attorney is appealing, as opposed to the defendant, the State of Illinois does not pay for the transcript. If an indigent defendant needs a copy, it would be provided free of charge pursuant to Supreme Court Rule.
